Miscarriage Counselling

SCIM logo SCIM specialise in offering counselling support to women & families from all over Scotland who have suffered Miscarriage, Still Birth or Neonatal Loss. Our counsellors are trained up to MSc level in counselling.

There are many different types of counselling. At SCIM our counsellors work in a Person-centred way. This approach has been used for over 50 years and was founded by Carl Rogers. The Person-centred Approach is based on the idea that every person has within themselves the resources for self understanding, at SCIM our counsellors can help you to develop these resources through our Glasgow base. Counselling can provide a safe supportive relationship where difficulties can be sensitively explored. Our counselling service is used by individual male or female clients and couples. Our service assists clients following loss, prior to trying again, and throughout pregnancy.

Why Consider Counselling?

Counselling provides a safe and supportive relationship in which clients, experiencing miscarriage, can sensitively explore their concerns. Counselling is different from advice-giving it is about exploring your own thoughts and feelings to help you to find your own way forward. Counselling is also about change and empowerment; it enables individuals to get in touch with their own potential, learning to manage life and feelings better.

Some of the Reasons Why Women Consider Counselling:

  • No one seemed to understand
  • To explore why this happened to me
  • To build my confidence before trying again
  • Depression & loneliness
  • To be supported through a future pregnancy
  • To talk about my relationship problems

Who Are The Counsellors?

SCIM counsellors hold a Diploma in Person-centred Counselling, have personal experience of miscarriage and have been specially trained in miscarriage counselling. SCIM trainee counsellors, who are studying towards a diploma in counselling, may also provide counselling.
