Travel Advice and Immunisations

There is an NHS website available with information for people travelling abroad that includes the latest news and warnings, called Fit For Travel.

You can also get travel advice from the practice, free of charge.

This advice and vaccination is with our Practice Nurse and will only be available when she is here.

If you intend to travel, an appointment should be made well in advance (6-8 weeks) and you should say whether you are intending to travel to rural areas.

Once a consultation for travel advice has taken place the surgery will administer the immunisations required directly, avoiding the need for a prescription to be issued. This applies to the majority of common travel immunisations and includes:

  • Polio
  • Typhoid
  • Hepatitis A
  • Tetanus and diphtheria boosters if required

Where travellers require immunisations not covered above (for example rabies, etc) the practice will be required to issue a private prescription and there will be a separate charge of £10 for this.

Malaria prevention treatment is not available on the NHS and in most cases can be bought over the counter from pharmacies.

Should you have any questions regarding this change please contact Mrs B Arthur, the practice manager.
